144 MHz Trophy Contest 2021

For the fourth year running, the weather was kind to most entrants this year with warm, dry weather on both days for most entrants except those in Scotland.

Conditions were rated as good by most entrants (described as excellent or fantastic by some) and a bucket load of DX was worked by many stations.

The number of logs received this year was 138 (including checklogs). This is an increase on the total for 2019 (the last normal year) but less than for the COVID-19 hit contest in 2020 when some of the operators usually found in multi-operator teams came on as single operator stations. There were 82 logs in 2015, 85 in 2016, 109 in 2017, 118 in 2018, 128 in 2019, and 178 logs in 2020. This year, logs were received from eight countries (ES, F, G, GD, GM, GW, OK, PA).

The excellent conditions produced lots of DX contacts. There were 49 contacts over 1000km of which 18 were over 1300km and 6 exceeded 1400km. The best contact by a UK&CD station was between MM0CCC/P and OL7M at 1459km.

One station, having completed a 6 hour entry on Saturday then decided, for innocent reasons, to resume operations the next morning using a different callsign and make a separate 6 hour entry. This is contrary to the rules and the second entry has been treated as a check log. Unfortunately general rule 4f also means the second QSOs claimed by some stations who worked him twice have also been dis-allowed.

Richard GD8EXI for winning the Six-hour Single Operator Fixed section (6S)
